Positive Vibrations is an after-school dramatic arts programme at the Chief Albert Luthuli Primary School. Our partnership with this initiative and their volunteer teacher Ms. Lungile Maboe is unforgettable. Ms. Maboe and her twenty-two girls are, without a doubt heroes. These girls, aged between six and thirteen years old, have become seasoned performers in their own right. Using song, drama and dance they make visible untold African stories and paint pictures of their own journeys of self-discovery.

Since inception, the Group have successfully mobilised youth, adults, artists, politicians, choreographers, musicians and sports facilitators within the Daveyton community, a township in Benoni, to inspire and motivate their peers. Thanks to unsung hero, Lungile Maboe, these girls’ academic performance has improved despite severe socio-economic challenges. A real testimony to how the creative arts can advance academic skills.
